I love smoothies and make them religiously. All raw all the time. I placed some frozen peaches and frozen strawberries, with a little water, in a bowl to thaw. When I returned to begin my smoothie masterpiece, I was so inspired by the colors I saw! The rich red of the strawberries and the golden yellow of the peaches in equal amounts was an incredulous combination! I realized the next opportunity I had with my design work, I would incorporate the two. Red and Yellow both promote energy. So a room like this will really come alive! I can't wait! I'll let you know how it goes! Baneachaberry Smoothie Recipe: Makes 2 servings. 3 Ripe Bananas, 1/2 Cup Frozen Peaches, 1/2 Cup Frozen Strawberries. 1 Cup Cold Water. Blend Bananas in food processor or blender until almost smooth. Add frozen fruit (or thaw for 5 minutes first), blend, while slowly adding water. Alter ingredient amounts to taste. Add stevia sweetner if smoothie is not sweet enough. Garnish with a strawberry and enjoy your summer!!!

What's on your wall? Getting ready to paint over an existing wall color but don't know what kind of paint it is? Try scratching or chipping it off. If it chips off, it's an oil-based paint. If it peels off, it's a latex-based paint. You'll want to prime over the existing oil-based paint or use oil-based paint again. For the latex-based paint, you have a green light to begin painting with latex paint, without necessarily having to prime.

I just spent my vacation on the Oregon coast this week. Experimenting with my new iPhone App for Ben Moore, I stumbled upon the most precise color for that deep ocean blue: 2063-20 Down Pour Blue. Try it in a powder room for your guests. Use a shimmery silver glaze for the baseboards, and silver accent pieces or wall hangings. So, upon completion of my color consult the other day, I realized I had injected 3 different color schemes into one home. This was not intentional, but as a result of the tasks and feel my client wanted for each room. The project was a 3 story row home within the Capitol Hill district of Washington, DC. A nearly complete 1920's whole house renovation, my client wanted the main level to feel regal and sophisticated. Amidst the dust, I had to visualize a blue tufted couch that was on order, to be placed in the "parlor" area. Imagine dark stained wood floors and trim. This set the precedence. Thus, the main floor color scheme was formed. I went with neutral tones, in medium shades of beige, with a white, utilitarian type kitchen. This floor would become a warm and inviting place for entertaining, where furnishings and architectural details are the focus, not the paint color. The 2nd floor was more about fun. Still wanting to remain with an historic feel, the guest bathroom, office, family room, and tiny guest bedroom received a muted blue-gray, beige, citrine green, and a terra cotta brown. Having these colors muted as opposed to vibrant, helped maintain an old home feel. The 3rd floor was more about peace and tranquility. Since this was where the master bedroom and baby's room was located, all the colors were done in a cool palette. Light gray, medium blue, and a light green...toothpaste green as my client suggested. And there you have it! Regal, Fun, and Peaceful all in one house. Neutrals, Muted Colors, and Cool tones completed this project. Want to see what's inside my jeans? I turned them inside out to preserve their color while washing them. What I noticed was the pattern color on the pockets. They resembled Benjamin Moore's Solitude AF-545 & Salsa Dancing AF-280. Go to the link I've provided below. Look under Affinity. Select the number to see the color. AF-545 is a medium hue of a powdery blue. That was the background. AF-280 is a tomato reddish orange. Those were printed flowers. A room with walls in Solitude and just a hint with your accent pieces in Salsa Dancing will make any bedroom come alive! And still give you that restful sleep. Check it out:

Frager's Hardware in DC was painting some sample baseboards in the paint store the other day to display! That's when I fell in love! You can get them in different colors! Just look for Modern Masters Metallic Paint. Green Apple, Pink Pearl, and Oyster are really hot new colors that just came out. It's like colored stain, only it's paint! SO AWESOME!
