Living Room Colors that Men Love
Of course men care about living room colors. This fact might come as news to some men but their mood in a room can betray the secret. Men and women are affected equally by space and colors. It is a natural reaction but the response varies according to the individual, location, and circumstance. Men's comfort zone with interior design and style has changed through the years. The 2011 interior design trends will reflect the modern man. The style will be a mix of contemporary and traditional, bold and quiet colors, as well as classic touches and clever accents.
There are exceptions to every rule and trend. Other finishes which are fixed in the space may be a factor in choosing which colors to use. With this young man's living room to the right, for example, we chose a color that would blend well with the kitchen countertop and enhance the other red tones brought into the space without making it feel too heavy.

The latest trend in interior design for men embraces individual style rather than a stereotype. 2011 interior design will give every man the opportunity to feel at home in his living space. The world of design no longer thinks that it takes only sports memorabilia or the famous leg lamp from A Christmas Story to suit men's style.

So, what does the latest interior design trend tell us about men's preferences? Men encounter plenty of beige and grey in the workplace. In contrast, bold living room colors are popular with men. And Sherwin Williams now offers 2011 paint colors in the 'Bold Invention' palette (SW 6963 Sapphire, SW 7589 Habanero Chile, SW 6938 Synergy, SW 6445 Garden Grove). The Roper/Pantone Consumer Color Preference Study shows that men are drawn to shades of blue, green, and red. Sophisticated shades such as bronze and gold (variations of yellow on the color wheel chart) are expected to resonate with men.

TESTIMONIALS
Dear KC, We did not know what to expect from a color consultant but appreciated your listening to both of us describe what feeling we hoped to have in the living room. More importantly, you asked us what paintings and furnishings we wanted to keep and what we were willing to let go. Wow! You chose an inspiring color for one living room wall. For thirty years we had lived with an iconic orange, straight out of the 70s and our hippie years. You selected – or should I say divined -- a warm cognac that brought together everything in the room no matter if it is the cool light of 8 a.m., the bright western sunlight streaming in at 3 p.m., or the glow of artificial lights at night. We cannot be more pleased. Thanks so much. We can’t wait to consult with you when another project opens up. JoAnne and Bill Capitol Hill
